Wachusett Aqueduct
Water Supply

The original brick-lined-concrete arch aqueduct was constructed in the late 1800's and was undersized for the new flow demand. The aqueduct was retrofitted using a reinforced concrete lining system over its entire length of 4 miles. The new design provided over 150% more flow capacity, which exceeded the present day demand.

Summary or Design Modifications

Stainless steel anchors were used in conjunction with a structural epoxy adhesive and tie wire to connect wire mesh to the original brick-lined/concrete arch aqueduct. High pressure shotcrete was then applied over the mesh. The shotcrete surface was steel trowel finished smooth.
