A multi-year initiative was setup to prioritize maintenance goals at three Canfor Mills in Prince George, British Columbia. The client performed a comprehensive, proprietary risk-based inspection (RBI) & reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) program to identify key maintenance issues. Our expertise and knowledge in: corrosion and materials engineering; damage mechanisms; fitness-for-service technology was used to address the items in order to reduce maintenance costs and improve equipment reliability.

Summary and Results

CPI provided a wide range of specifications and best practices for inspecting and repairing fixed equipment made from metal, fiberglass reinforced plastics and concrete. The RBI program remains sustainable and effective, saving Canfor Pulp almost $100 million since 2004 and increasing plant reliability and safety. Largest cost savings came from systematic using knowledge of damage mechanisms to optimize inspection plans of recovery boilers, brick- and tile-lined equipment and FRP equipment, and from wide use of modern materials and corrosion control technologies.
